Is Putting Duct Tape on Warts Effective?

There are so many weird home remedies and wives tales it’s hard to know which ones work. There is a wives tale that putting duct tape on warts is a sure way to get rid of them. This wives tale has been put to the test in numerous medical studies. Unfortunately, the facts are in and the results aren’t what people hoped.

The theory behind the duct tape on warts remedy is the duct tape will smother the skin. This is supposed to result in the wart getting irritated and the body taking the course of nature and healing itself.

Of the studies conducted, this  method was effective 16% of the time. If you don’t want to pay for a wart removal product I guess it’s worth a shot. The most effective method that resulted in a 73% success rate was using ointments containing salicylic acid. This was more effective when applied regularly.

Why Putting Duct Tape on Warts is a Bad Idea

wart removalI’m always game for trying a home remedy, but  putting duct tape on warts is a bad idea. First off, you are smothering the skin. Suppose the area becomes infected. If you leave the duct tape on long enough (supposedly you need to keep it on for 6 days) the area could fester and end up causing additional problems in addition to the warts.

The second reason why putting duct tape on warts is it’s  ghetto! Now maybe you don’t care about that and I’m sure most people  don’t. If you have warts you want them gone and will do what it takes.

The final reason why putting duct tape on warts is a bad idea is it doesn’t work! Okay, it works on 16 out of every 100 people statistically but that’s a failing rate.

If you are serious about getting rid of warts there are several options that are cheap, safe, and effective. Well the first isn’t totally safe but fairly safe any way.

Alternatives to Using Duct Tape on Warts

The first method for removing warts is trying an over the counter medicine. There are lots of different types but the most popular ones are the freezing applicators.

You basically use the freezing applicator and apply it directly to the wart. This kills the skin cells and hopefully kills the wart. The advantages of this are it’s fairly  cheap. The disadvantages are it doesn’t work all the time and can cause permanent skin damage.

The next method is of course to try an ointment that contains salicylic acid. There are many gels or lotions you can get fairly cheap. The good news is of course this has a fairly high success rate, like 73%. The bad news is there are some possible side effects. The side effects according to WebMD are burning or peeling of the skin! Other side effects include redness of the skin and although rare, a serious side effect such as swelling, trouble breathing, and severe dizziness. Needless to say putting duct tape on warts isn’t sounding like such a bad idea. That was a joke, it’s still a horrible idea.

Fortunately, there is one product that has a 95% success rate. Not only that but  it is safe and all natural.  The product I’m talking about is called DermaTend®.

Using DermaTend to Remove Warts

DermaTend is well known for removing skin tags and moles, but it also works for warts. It’s  the only all natural remedy that I recommend for getting rid of warts, skin tags or moles. I’ve used it for about a year now on my skin tags and it works great. It sure beats the heck out of trying duct tape.

The bottom line is, if you have warts or skin tags you want them gone. Warts aren’t really harmful but they are unsightly. They are also contagious which makes it worse, especially if you have kids, they catch and spread everything.

Okay, remember, duct tape on warts is bad. Safe all natural DermaTend is good. Go check  it out. It’s  guaranteed to work or you get your money back. You’ve got nothing to lose!
